As a natural light, on location photographer you have to be ready for every type of lighting scenario that can be in a home. I was lucky with Everly’s session that it had all the natural bouncing reflective light to give her nursery photos a bright and airy and soft look. I love that every in-home session just takes on a personality of its own because nothing is orchestrated besides doing little tidying up. I love to let the home and the family’s personalities shine in their spaces.
I always focus most on capturing portraits first and foremost. Everything else comes second. I am always searching for the person pocket of light in my families homes to give the lighting on the face the best effect, and then I try and organize everything around that. But my secret sauce that is me, is that I shoot inbetween those prompted moments too… it’s how I get those natural movements and little looks and smiles when they didn’t think I was shooting : ))
